‘Do what you love’.

‘Be yourself’.

Two lovely, pertinent sentiments that were delivered by Birdwell-born Helen Clarke as she gave ‘her story’ to Horizon College students on Thursday afternoon.

Helen, who attended Worsbrough High School and has lived in London for 20 years, was the latest brilliant speaker in Lifetime’s ‘Barnsley Businesses Inspiring Students’ project.

She is the Production Director at iconic London-based fashion company Margaret Howell – and had driven up from the capital especially to see the Year 7/Year 8 master class.

And what a tale she had to tell, starting with her school and college life in Barnsley; her constant love of art and creativity; her early working life with such companies as Whistles, Liberty, Paul Costelloe and Elle; and then her busy job with Margaret Howell, a fashion company who attract celebrity customers like Robbie Williams and One Direction’s Harry Styles!

Six students – the ones who asked the first six questions – were also the lucky recipients of some Margaret Howell accessories! (see picture below).

Helen was even asked for an autograph at the end of her talk!

She said: “The BBIS is a great project and I am proud to be part of it. Thank you so much for inviting me! I was rather nervous beforehand but it went well. Hopefully the students got a good insight into the fashion world and what I do. I would be honoured to come back.”
