With technology developing at a record pace and kids mastering iPads before they’re even out of nappies, it’s more important than ever to instill the skills of planning and consideration in our children.
The promise of youth remains as bright as ever but the importance of getting kids to develop a sense of forethought and planning will help them considerably in later life and will provide them with lifelong positive traits.
Most of us came from a generation where saving and planning were beaten in to us from an early age.
We all had piggy banks, we had to have the money in our hands before we purchased anything, and had to wait for the shops to be open before we could buy that prized possession. If we said anything nasty in the play ground the teacher would make us apologise in front of the vindicated child.
These days are over, children today live in the here and now, everything is available at the touch of a button and anything said can be communicated to the world.
As I sat watching Spiderman with my daughter the other day the words ‘With great power, comes great responsibility’ seemed to have a resonance in this world of immediacy.
Technology will continue to move forward and so too will the power it gives individuals.
Call me old fashioned but I think that we should make it our responsibility not to allow the fundamental basics of planning and consideration to be forgotten in the future generations, after all these traits have served us well and they are now even more poignant than ever before! – Victoria Oliver
